Meli Elatis Menalou Vanilia

(Μέλι Ελάτης Μαινάλου Βανίλια)

Produced in the districts of Gortynia and Mantineia in the Arcadia prefecture, Meli Elatis Menalou Vanilia is the first Greek honey acknowledged by the European Union as a protected product. At least 80% of this honey comes from black fir, while the rest is mixed flower honey.

This world famous product owns the 'vanilia' name to its color that can be described as being between pearly white to caramel. The honey is not collected from the blossoms, but rather honeydew produced by microorganisms on the trunk of the black fir.

It has a humidity degree of approximately 15% and a sugar content varying between 8% and 18% which keep it from crystallizing, even after many years. It has a great nutritional value since it contains many minerals such as potassium, magnesium and iron, and vitamins that promote better sugar absorption by the human body.

This product is also valued for its subtle sweetness and aroma of butterscotch. It is one of the rarest products in the world because the manufacturing of this exquisite honey takes time and money as the honeycomb must be destroyed. For this reason, the amount produced is limited and Meli Elatis Menalou Vaniliais is usually sold out even before the production started.

It can be used as a sweetener, or as an ingredient in many recipes.

Mila Delicious Pilafa Tripoleos

(Tripoli Delicious Pilafa Apples , Μήλα Ντελίσιους Πιλαφά Τριπόλεως )

Tripoli Delicious Pilafa Apples are apples of the variety Delicious Pilafa cultivated in areas of the prefecture of Arcadia since the 1920s. The first known grower of these apples was Ilias Andreou Pilafas who brought the seed with him from America and planted it in the garden of his house.

As their name says, these apples are delicious. Their flesh is juicy, white, and has a firm texture. The taste is just slightly acidic and their fragrance is very unusual, similar to that of bananas. Their skin is green-yellow with dark brown spots.
They are harvested gradually by hand after a ripeness check. Tripoli Delicious Pilafa Apples are characterized by their resistance and long shelf life because they preserve their organoleptic characteristics for a longer period than any other similar variety.

These apples are full of vitamins and, therefore, it is advisable to eat them as a healthy snack during the day.

Tsakoniki Melitzana Leonidiou

(Tsakoniki Aubergine, Tsakoniki Eggplant , Τσακώνικη Μελιτζάνα Λεωνιδίου )

This eggplant is produced exclusively in Arcadia prefecture near the town of Leonidio. These purple, slightly curved aubergines with unusual white stripes are cultivated outdoors on the sandy soils of the area. They are harvested from May to November.

What sets them apart from other eggplant varieties is their white stripes and their very mild, almost sweet taste with a lack of bitterness. Tsakoniki Melitzana Leonidiou is used as a basic ingredient in many recipes, and is often prepared as 'melitzanaki', a spoon sweet.

A festival is held every year in August to promote these local eggplants, during which eggplant recipe competitions are held and more than 50 different dishes are prepared.
